Trying to find something healthy that 4 kids and 2 adults will eat can be a challenge, especially when the kids don't need to really worry about all the 'bad' stuff out there. Tonight was a win! We had a taco bar feast. I had no grassfed/ nongmo beef so we used ground turkey. Along with that, I added our homemade taco seasoning ( listed in recipes) , Lauren's homemade guacamole, Brian's homemade taco sauce ( Frank's Red Hot sauce with garlic and butter), and all of the other natural toppings one would find. We even had a bit of homemade salsa from our plants on our 'deck' garden. Of course the kids ate the taco shells, but Lauren, Brian, and I had the best taco salad ever. With this meal, we allowed ourselves a bit of sour cream and cheese. Through my Whole30 journey, omitting foods, I realize that I can tolerate small amounts of dairy in my diet, just not often. It truly was a winner, and there are NO leftovers from this meal, and nothing was thrown away!
Since my journey began with Whole 30 back in January, our family has done a lot of research about what real problem with our diet was. All research that we read, watched, etc. leads to sugar, processed sugar, refined sugar and all the other clever names that mean sugar. Once you eliminate all of the sugar in your diet you feel better, the weight comes off, and many of your aches and pains leave as well. Sugar found naturally in fruits and vegetables are fine, because they are in a natural state.
Did you know that if you read the labels on the items you purchase, Sugar is listed as x amount of grams, and no % daily value? So you really have NO idea how much sugar you are getting!
As a result of all we have learned about sugars in the past 7 months, we spend way more time at the grocery store reading labels and sticking with staples that have no added sugar in them. In the beginning, I would go by myself because it took me soooooo long to figure out what to buy, now the whole family is on the grocery store experience.
